A quick note to let anyone reading this know that I have updated the Best Shots page. I've added a few new birds and updated over 35 other existing species on the alphabetical list. Everything there can also be found on the diary pages as well. You might have to hit the page reload button to see the latest images.

Just added a second calendar. This one is a general birding calendar celebrating the birds of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is hard to decide what birds to include and which to leave out. But I had the expert help of Charlene as always, her expert photo editing eye made the choice almost painless. You can check out the results here.

I just completed the Raptor Calendar for 2010. I've proofed it and have the first copy. It looks great, so it is now available for sale. Check it out here.

You can see the images on the opening page of my website and I have also created a page so you can study the images larger. You can see them at this link.

Thanks to the trip taken to the Farallon Islands, I've added 3 birds to my life list and included them on the new Alphabetical index page. Check out the new Puffins, Guillemots and Shearwater pages. Also added are new Red-necked Phalaropes, Murres, Cormorants and Brown Pelican shots. Check out the entire trip on the 8-22-09 diary page.

I've taken about a month off from shooting to update the Select Photos section of the website. Please check it out and let me know what you think. There are larger images of raptors in new categories. I've added an alphabetical listing of every species that I have good shots of. Each page allows you to comment on a photo and send the comments to me in an email. So please if you see something that needs fixing, then drop me a note and let me know.

Regards and thanks for looking.

Good news, falcons have returned to the PG&E building in San Francisco, as of today they have three eggs in the nest box. I'll be covering their comings and goings as the eggs hatch and the eyases fledge. More interesting shots await.

Charlene and I went to Half Moon Bay on Saturday to photograph raptors. We had an amazing time at Wavecrest, a new future raptor winter sanctuary that needs our support.

From the POST website:

In January 2008, POST entered into a three-year option to purchase and protect 206-acre Wavecrest, an extraordinary natural, recreational and scenic resource for Half Moon Bay and the entire Coastside. Now POST is raising private donations, leveraged with public funds, to cover the $13.5 million purchase price.

# Safeguard region's most important raptor wintering grounds
# Provide public enjoyment and recreation
# Protect sweeping ocean views and coastal landscape
# Preserve Half Moon Bay's last undeveloped land bridge from Highway 1 to the sea
# Create California Coastal Trail segment and connections to other protected lands

I've been asked to contribute some photos to a silent auction to raise money for the Hungry Owl project. This will take place on Thursday evening on November 20, 2008 at the Marin Garden Center. Check out their website event page at hungryowl.org for details as to how to attend. Starting bids for my work will be half the price on my website. Plus you will get to meet some live owls. Worth the entrance price for that alone.

I just finished reading Falcons of North America, by Kate Davis, with photographs by Rob Palmer, Nick Dunlop, Will Sooter, Bob Steele, Ron Austing, Jon Avery, Kenny Sterner, Glenn Stewart, Evet Loewen, Tracy Fleming, Jeep Pagel, Scott Francis, Bob Tabke, and one shot of Gracie the Peregrine on page 97 by yours truly. It was an honor to be included in this wonderful book. And I really recommend that you get a copy and mabye a couple extras as gifts for those that you know that would like one. Please check it out at the Raptors of the Rockies website. If you have the book, then write a review of it at Amazon and spread the word.

I had some free time, so I went back to my older diary pages and I have added thumbnails to help guide viewers to page favorites. Take a look at the previous years and tell me what you think.

Dealing with the oil spill took its toll on me. That and my day job have kept me quite busy and distracted. I had hoped to get this calendar done earlier, but better late than never.

It wasn't easy to decide which images to use. There are only 12 months plus the cover and I wanted to include one of each kind of species commonly found here, but the shots had to be sharp and special enough to include. I have yet to get a good shot of a Northern Harrier, and Merlins so far have escaped me completely. Obviously no calendar can do justice to the incredible diversity we are blessed with in the Bay Area, but here is my humble attempt. In it you will find shots of Red-tailed Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, White-tailed Kites plus one shot each of a Cooper's Hawk and an American Kestrel.

So for those interested, here is a link to my 2008 Calendar

Glenn

So much has happened since I wrote last. Check out my raptor diary for the latest images. In addition, I was approached by Kate Davis of the non-profit Raptors of the Rockies. She is doing a book on falcons in North America and wanted to use the shot of Gracie and the Bay Bridge. Rob Palmer and Nick Dunlop are contributing the greatest portion of the photos, all pro-bono for this worthy organization. It will be a great honor to be included in this endeavor. You can check out their website here:

Slowly getting organized, I finally decided to join NANPA, which is short for the North American Nature Photography Association. I'll post more about it on my blog, but if you are interested in visiting their web site, you can do it here.

Another year, another page added. I've put up a link for 2007 images. There is already a nice sequence of a Cooper's Hawk that has been hanging out in our back yard. I also have started a blog on Wordpress.com. You can see it here.

November 26 , 2006

Check out the Cafepress site for the latest in falcon apparel; shirts and sweatshirts are now available. Just added; falcon postage stamps! Also, I have added a parrot calendar, cards, ornaments and mugs.

November 11, 2006

The posters of Gracie are gone, taken down on November 11th.

August 20, 2006

There are now 4 copies of Gracie on Art Billboards on Market Street.

Mark Brest van Kempen contacted me back in June concerning an upcoming public art project and requested the use of a falcon photo for his upcoming Ecology of Market Street to be shown on 24 kiosks located on Market Street between the Embarcadero and Van Ness Blvd. The exhibit will be up till November 11, so if you are downtown, pause and take a look at one of the displays. Gracie shares the show with a Brewer's Blackbird, a Moth, a Wasp, a Norway Rat, and some stunted grass and moss. You can find Gracie at the following locations: California at Market, the next is directly in front of the old Emporium Entrance which will soon open as a Bloomingdale's, the third is at 973 Market between 5th and 6th Streets, and the last one is at Market and 11th Street. The photo was taken on banding day and it printed quite nicely on the posters.

Meet the artist and friends for a tour of his six poster designs and a discussion about plant and animal life surviving in an urban environment. Charlene and I plan to be there. Hope you can join us. For those that can't make it. Here are a couple of views of the falcon poster.

June 18, 2006:

The web site has been updated with a new look. Price List for prints is now available.

June 14, 2006 Update:

There are now 6 cards available at the CafePress.com site. Also I've reloaded the March 23rd page of George defending the nest from the Red Tail Hawk. It was accidentally omitted when the transfer was made to the new domain and URL.

June 8, 2006

I have just set up an online store at CafePress.com. Only 2 greeting cards available so far, but you can visit the site and bookmark it for future shopping. Here is the link, note that there is an underbar between raptor and gallery instead of a dash. Dashes were not permitted in store web site addresses.

www.cafepress.com/raptor_gallery

I will be putting up more images as greeting cards soon. Please be patient.

I'll be putting up a price list for archival prints as well. These I will print myself to maintain the best quality. There will also be a page with select images that will print well, and make it easy to find them rather than searching through the diary pages. If you know of a specific image that you want to be included in the select page, let me know I don't want anyone disappointed. Drop me a line at glenn@raptor-gallery.com or

my other email address: glennnevill@yahoo.com
