I took a quick trip to Pier 94 this afternoon to try to capture some barn swallows in flight. I tried tracking them with a 500mm lens two weeks before and had no luck at all. This visit I brought my 400mm f5.6 lens, considered by many to be one of the best for birds in flight. The birds for the most part, were not nearly as numerous as my previous visit, but I had much greater luck tracking the few that did show up. The lighting was terrible, but it was bright enough so I was able to shoot at 1/2500 and 1/4000 sec. Necessary for freezing these incredible acrobats.
