This is an un-cropped view of Diamond Lil taken through my Canon 1dMk4 with 500mm lens and a 1.4x teleconverter added. That converts the lens to 770mm. The camera sensor is not as big as a full size 35mm camera, it has a smaller sensor which has a 1.3 conversion factor. So that brings the lens reach up to the equivalent of a 1001 mm lens if viewed on a full frame 35mm camera. And yet as you can see, the falcon is still really small in the image.
