I parked at the Poplar Street lot in Half Moon Bay and walked south a few hundred yards. This 206 acre site, will be purchased by the Penninsula Open Space Trust to safeguard wintering grounds for raptors. Paste this link into your browser address window to read all about it.
I visited last year and found Red-tails in the dozens flying overhead. This day, almost a month later, I was treated to a mix. Starting with this Red-shouldered Hawk All shots were taken with a Canon 1DMkIII, 500mm lens, 1.4 teleconverter, most were hand held and many were cropped for composition and because even with all that lens, it is still necessary to crop to get a decent image.
